The Institute
For Academy Diversity
Itéramãxe is a mentorship collective for historically oppressed students applying for graduate school in Brazil.

About Us
We were founded in 2019 by five Black women attending graduate school at the University of São Paulo, Latin America's leading research university. Although Brazil is a majority-Black country and the second largest Black nation in the world, access to graduate school is largely restricted to White upper-class families.
To fight exclusion and promote academic diversity, we offer workshops directed at various aspects of the application process, as well as one-on-one mentorship and feedback on application materials. We also raise funds to support historically oppressed students in applying for and completing graduate school.
Itéramãxe is a Yoruba word for perseverance and re-existence. Our values are Social Justice, Belonging, Empowerment, and Accessibility. We are a product of this force.
